Know the rules and guidelines for Oil India Limited's National Level Essay Competition 2018-2019

Oil India has organised many events to mark the completion of 60 glorious years.  So, it is proposed to conduct OIL's 60 years' National Level Essay Competition 2018 for those students who are pursuing school, college, under graduate and 
Post Graduate degree. This competition will be held in three languages - Assamese, Hind
i and English. There are two categories --

Category 1:
Topic for the students who are studying between Class 9th and 12th standard - Green Energy: a solution to climate change,

Category 2:
Topic for the students who are studying in Graduation/Post Graduation: Energy Security in India: Challenges and Opportunities.


There are three languages-Assamese, Hindi and English. The students have to select one language as a medium of essay writing.


15th August 2018 to 14th September 2018

Prizes will be given to selected 18 selected essays. Names of the winners will be published on OIL's website. The winners will be awarded an honorarium cash prize and a certificate and a memento as per following

Categories 1: (9th to 12th standard).

Cash prize:

First-01(one)-- Rs.20,000/-




Category 2: (Graduation/Post Graduation)

Cash prize:

First-01(one)--Rs. 30,000/-

Second-01(one)--Rs. 25,000/-

Third -01(one)--Rs. 20,000/-

National winners will be announced in January 2019 and only the first prize winners and in each language and category will be invited to take part in the concluding ceremony of  60th year celebration on 18th February 2019 at OIL's Field Headquarters in Duliajan, Assam.

Eligibility criteria:
Category 1: Would include Secondary and Senior Secondary school students (from 9th to class 12th). Should be written within 2000 words.

Category 2:
Would include College/University/Institute students who are pursuing Graduation or Post Graduation. Should be written within 3000 words.

There is no Regional fees to participate.


The essays Should be typed on A4 size electronic paper. It should be submitted only in PDF format. Handwritten essays will also be accepted in scanned PDF format.  But typed essays are freferred.

Font size must be 12 points English (Arial), Assamese(Vrinda), Hindi (Mangal).

1.5 interliner space.

Margins of one inch on all the sides

Names, other details of the applicant need not to be written on the body of the essay or the PDF document to be uploaded.

Maximum file size is 20 MB.

Submission Process:

The documents should be submitted online on OIL's website from 15th August 2018 to 14the September 2018 only. The size must not exceed 20 MB.

Scoring Process:

The entries will be screened and evaluated by a committee formed by OIL. Then the essays will be examined bu a jury appointed by the OIL. They will be assessed according to ideas, clarity, content, sequence of presentation and creative writing skills.

Evaluation Criteria:

Central theme and originality of ideas (30%)

Coherence and Organisation in structure (20%)

Creativity and presentation (30%)

Clarity in expression,  language and style (20%).

** Decision of OIL is final.
